“不，我不回！”吉姆斯尖声叫了起来，“不，我不回！你们干了好事，我要回去非给贝特丽丝小姐打个半死不可。第一件事，先要问我怎么叫你俩又给人家开除掉了。再一件事，今晚怎么就不把你俩带回家，叫她好好收拾一顿。这么一来，她会生了我的气，就像老鸭扑小龟一样，劈头盖脸把我揍上一顿。我就知道什么事都会怨到我头上。你们要不带我上温德先生家去，我就在林子里睡一夜，叫巡逻队抓了去，也说不定呢。不过就是叫巡逻队抓住，也比叫贝特丽丝小姐在火头上抓住的好。”

He backed his big red horse and then， putting spurs to his side， lifted him easily over the split rail fence into the soft field of Gerald O’Hara’s plantation.

从以上这段文字可以看出，美国南北内战爆发前的美国南方，黑人奴隶人生虽依附于主家，但不是所有的黑奴情况都多么凄惨的，这对双胞胎白人兄弟的贴身服务黑奴，竟敢顶撞这两位白人双胞胎主人，而两位白人双胞胎主人并非以皮鞭对之，而是能够耐心听完这黑奴的诉求理由，最终还顺着他的意思来呢。
另外，从文中可以看出，当时美国北方打出的＂解放黑奴＂的主张和旗号，影响力已相当大，已实在地影响到了美国南方。
社会的人都是具体的，诉求也是具体的。那对双胞胎白人兄弟的黑人贴身佣人，一定也受到了＂解放黑奴＂思潮的一定影响。而另一方面，他也为能在这对双胞胎兄弟这样的大庄园里为奴感到骄傲的，因为那里伙食好，衣食无忧，反倒是这对双胞胎白人兄弟提醒他不要对此乱炫耀以照顾到其他小庄园主的感受。此种情况让我想起了现实里关于＂996＂工作时间安排是＂福报＂的言论，是福报吗？不过，一个事实是，动辄数十万年薪的互联网大厂，只有极少、极少的精英人士才有资格被选中去工作的，从这个意义上来说，某大佬的这一言论只是说了句实话罢了。但是，社会性的文明制度构建和社会的长久发展，决定了黑奴必须要被解放，强制性质的＂996＂工作时间法必须会被扔进历史的垃圾堆。
